Summer School
NIGAT – Northern Ireland Group for Art as Therapy is a unique forum of individuals who advocate the use of Art as Therapy and Art Therapy to facilitate health and well-being. An important part of NIGAT's role is to increase awareness of the value of the therapeutic art approach, how NIGAT does this is outlined in About NIGAT. Through its membership and long established connections NIGAT can also provide a wealth of information About Art Therapy.
An important part of the work of NIGAT is networking and coming together with other members and non-members who are interested in learning more about NIGAT, Art Therapy and Art as Therapy. This opportunity is created by the important meetings and events for NIGAT throughout the year including Day Meetings, the Summer School and the AGM. You can keep up to date with all the Latest News about other events, conferences, courses and research relevant to Art Therapy and the Creative Therapies.
NIGAT has held an Art Therapy Summer School every summer, following the tradition started in 1993. The non-residential summer school runs for a week usually at the end of July and includes a combination of presentations and experiential workshops. The Summer School is ideal for all those interested in exploring the therapeutic application of art with children and adults. This unique forum is open to anyone wishing to gain, or extend their awareness of the nature of Art Therapy / Art Psychotherapy.
Annual Membership offers the chance to be part of NIGAT. The beauty of NIGAT is that with such a diverse Membership it provides an excellent opportunity to network with a varied group who share the same interest; using the creative art process to facilitate personal well-being. Courses and Training are available in Northern Ireland, and NIGAT has historically played a key role in developing the Art Therapy / Art Psychotherapy profession in Northern Ireland. There is now a range of Courses & Training available at both Professional and non-qualifying levels. NIGAT is also committed to promoting Research into Art Therapy / Art Psychotherapy to continue to develop the profession in Northern Ireland.
